AD 2021: Reworking the Work Model

December 8, 2021

The rapidly evolving nature of our economies and societies accelerated by the COVID-19 crisis has brought a broader range of shifts in the way workplaces and workforces are organized. The advent of new technologies has radically transformed the way public and private organizations operates and manage their workforce. These changes are even more exacerbated by the ongoing impacts of the pandemic on the labor market that has reconfigured the employee-employer relationship. In this new work era, companies are seeking to maanage uncertainty, maintain the workforce’s productivity and enhance their competitiveness while embracing digital transformation. This will not only require the upskilling of workers but also the adoption of agile governance standards and redefining new workplace areas. This session will enlighten these trends that are challenging policymakers to put suitable frameworks for the new and alternative work models. What are the main imperatives for resetting the future of work agenda? How to embrace the integration of technology and skills to transform the workplace? Full-time, hybrid and homebased work: What implications for companies’ productivity and workforces’ wellbeing? What governance models to adopt in managing new workforces’ standards?

The Brazilian economy pays a price in terms of productivity foregone because of its lack of trade openness. A trade opening process would bring an adjustment impact that could nonetheless be mitigated with public policies that facilitate labor mobility and job migration. Benefits from trade opening would also hinge on policy improvements in complementary areas, such as infrastructure investments, business environment and others. The Brazilian economy would benefit from opening trad ...

Brazilian conditional cash transfers are small amounts of money the government distributes directly to very poor households on condition that their children attend school and are vaccinated. The money goes to the women of the household, because research undertaken in the 1990s – and later confirmed in other countries – showed an increase in babies' height and weight when women have more control over household income. Greater control over household resources by women can strengthen a ...

This proposal seeks to contribute to reduce, in a cost-effective way, Morocco’s unusually high, persistent and growing unemployment level for university graduates1. It complements and enhances the existing Université Internationale de Rabat (UIR) Public-Private Partnership (PPP). Tertiary enrolment in Morocco has been increasing above what seems to be labor market absorptive capacity. Over the past decade, the share of the unemployed with university degrees as a percentage of total ...
