Where does Türkiye stand? A glimpse at the Turkish policy in 2023

September 2023
Akram Zaoui & Serhat Suha

This podcast was recorded before the second round of the Turkish presidential election. While the result of the latter was still unknown, the first round as well as the legislative elections had marked clear tendencies within the Turkish society. Amongst them, a form of affirmation and rebirth of nationalism as drivers and revived guiding principles of the functioning of the Turkish polity. In particular, a key observation that was drawn after the first results of Türkiye's general elections were known was that the weak economic results, which Mr. Erdogan's heteredox policies had led to, did not seem to weaken the ability of the president's popular base to mobilize for its champion. For this episode of the PCNS podcasts, Dr. Serhat Suha, senior researcher at Trends Research and Advisory, answered the questions of Mr. Akram Zaoui, Senior Specialist at the PCNS.

Not all is quiet on the Chinese/Chinese front. Warships are sailing through the Taiwan Strait. America’s National Public Radio (NPR) reporter Scott Neuman stated (October 6, 2021), “Taiwan says tensions with China are at their worst in 4 decades.” With the situ ...

The role played by diasporas in international relations should not be neglected. Bilateral engagements between states can be significantly affected by the practical and perspective relations between the diaspora community and their homeland. In the African context, none has been so deeply incorporated into the economic and social fabric of the continent as the Indian diaspora. Historically symbolized by Gandhi’s emblematic sojourn in South Africa and the participation of Indian inde ...
