The macroeconomics research intern will contribute to the analytical output of the Policy Center for the New South by studying one of the key themes outlined in the 2024-2026 research program. The intern will either collaborate with and support one of the center’s researchers or conduct independent research under the supervision of a researcher. Mission

Primary Research work: The objective is to write or co-author a research paper or policy paper focusing on a macroeconomic theme. Select a research topic in agreement with the internship supervisor and conduct:
•A comprehensive literature review on topics such as economic growth, global macroeconomic trends, monetary and fiscal policy, or international trade.
•Collection and management of macroeconomic datasets (national accounts, labor markets, inflation, fiscal indicators, trade balances, etc.).
•Application of econometric models, impact analysis, and simulations of macroeconomic policies (e.g., using GE models, time-series or panel regressions).
•For composite indicators (if needed), develop models or frameworks relevant to the center's macroeconomic focus.

Support Research Activities :
•Economic monitoring: Analyze and provide regular updates on macroeconomic developments at national, regional, or global levels.
•Support researchers with specific analytical tasks related to current studies or policy evaluation.
•Help draft country or regional economic reports, focusing on aspects such as structural transformation, business cycles, inflation, or currency movements.

Contribution to General Workflows :
•Assist with various activities of the Policy Center for the New South, including support for seminars, events, or workshops.
•Contribute to the creation of presentations, talking points, or seminar summaries that reflect current macroeconomic research or policy priorities.
•Provide input for other institutional activities as required.

Profile

Core and Technical Skills:
•Enrolled in a graduate program in Economics or statistics
•Solid understanding of macroeconomic theory and policy (e.g., fiscal and monetary policy impacts, growth drivers, and international trade) and good knowledge of macroeconomic issues related to Morocco, Africa, and developing countries.
•Proven analytical and writing skills and good command of statistical and econometric techniques. 

Soft Skills :
•Strong communication skills 
•Highly autonomous, rigorous, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines under pressure.
•A collaborative spirit and a strong passion for development economics or global macroeconomic research.
