Junior Professional - Climate Care Nexus Project

The Policy Center for the New South (PCNS) is recruiting two Junior Policy Professionals (JPPs) to join the research team of the IDRC-funded project Climate Care Nexus: Adapting Care Systems to Climate and Migration Pressures in North and West Africa.
Under the supervision of the Project Lead and senior staff, the selected JPPs will actively contribute to research activities across the four participating countries, Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Mauritania. Their work will focus on analyzing the interconnections between climate change, migration dynamics, and the reconfiguration of care and social protection systems, with a strong empirical and policy-oriented approach.
This position offers an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on experience in applied research, field coordination, and policy engagement within an international and interdisciplinary environment.
MISSIONS
1. Research and Analytical Work
•Conduct literature reviews on climate–care–migration linkages and social protection systems in North and West Africa.
•Contribute to the development, testing, and harmonization of research instruments (household survey questionnaires, interview guides, etc.).
•Support the compilation, cleaning, and analysis of quantitative and qualitative datasets collected through the project (1,500–2,000 households and 120 interviews per country).
•Participate in the estimation of empirical models, evaluation of policy impacts, and preparation of analytical outputs (working papers, briefs, and data visualizations).
2. Project and Coordination Support
•Assist in organizing workshops, stakeholder consultations, and training sessions with national partners.
•Contribute to the preparation of internal reports, talking points, and PowerPoint presentations for dissemination activities.
•Draft country or regional briefs summarizing preliminary findings on the care-climate nexus and migration.
•Provide logistical and analytical support to national research teams during field phases when required.
PROFILE
Academic Background
•Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Economics, Development Economics, Public Policy, or a closely related field
•Specialization or proven interest in labor economics, gender and social protection, or environmental and climate economics.
Technical and Analytical Skills
•Solid knowledge of econometric and statistical analysis (Stata, R, python).
•Proven research and writing skills (ability to synthesize literature and draft policy-oriented documents).
•Understanding of survey design, impact evaluation methods, and mixed-methods approaches is an asset.
Behavioral Skills
•Strong communication and teamwork abilities in multicultural environments.
•Analytical rigor, autonomy, and sense of initiative.
•Organizational capacity and ability to meet tight deadlines.
Languages
•Excellent command of English and French (spoken and written).
DURATION AND LOCATION
•Duration: Full-time position for 12 months (renewable) within the 3-year project cycle.
•Location: Policy Center for the New South, Rabat, with possible field missions in partner countries (Senegal, Egypt, Mauritania).
