Bahattin Buyuksahin currently provides in-depth expert consulting and advisory services as well as executive teaching in commodities in general, and energy-related topics in particular. He has over fifteen years of experience in energy markets covering the spectrum of physical and financial energy markets, including financialization of commodities, the impact of financial market participants on energy price formation and volatility, the evolving regulatory framework and its effect on the structure and functioning of both the energy futures and physical markets, as well as the likely cost and benefits of proposed regulations. He previously managed the research on energy markets as the Head of Energy Analysis at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) between December 2016 and July 2019. Prior to joining the ADIA, he headed the research on commodity markets as the Policy Adviser of Commodities at the Bank of Canada from January 2013 to September 2016. Between November 2010 and January 2013, he was a Senior Oil Market Analyst at the International Energy Agency (IEA). He was a regular contributor to the IEA’s Oil Market Report(OMR). His coverage of energy futures markets is regularly picked up by several newspapers, including The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Bloomberg, Reuters, New York Times, and AFP. Before joining the IEA, he was a Senior Econometrician at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in Washington DC where he provided analytical and policy-related assistance to the Office of the Chief Economist and Office of the Chairman. He was also on the faculty of the Carey Business School of the Johns Hopkins University, where he taught graduate-level courses in derivatives, investments, and risk management.
