Expert Group Meeting on “Extending social security for agricultural workers in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA): Towards a policy incubator

Hamza Saoudi, Senior Economist at the Policy Center for the New South, will participate in an Expert Group Meeting on Extending Social Security for Agricultural Workers in the MENA Region, jointly organized with ILO-FAO. This event will take place in Amman, Jordan from June 24th to June 26th.
The Expert Group Meeting aims to foster interactive peer-to-peer knowledge exchange and learning, facilitating the sharing of experiences and skills among policymakers and practitioners responsible for expanding social security to AW across the region. Its goal is to promote exchange within countries, fostering collaboration between Ministries of Labour , and Agriculture as well as social security institutions to address country-specific challenges and devise mutually beneficial solutions, while also encouraging cross-country exchange through working groups.
The meeting is the first step towards installing a MENA Policy Incubator for strategies to extending social security to AW in the region. The MENA Policy Incubator for the social security of AWs aims to:
· Nurture a community of practice for the advancement of agricultural workers' social protection in the MENA Region;
· Institutionalize an intra and inter regional space for regular showcase of innovative solutions, ongoing reforms, and implementation practices;
· Set forth the development of a regional compendium that reflects on promising practices and innovative solutions;
· Identify opportunities to further support social security reforms in favor of agricultural workers
Hamza Saoudi will deliver a presentation on "Lifting Legal Barriers: Social Protection for All—A Key Fundamental Policy for Social Inclusion in Morocco.", and will moderate a session on : "Coordination of Extension Strategies with Other Policies"
