L’espace atlantique africain constitue un espace stratégique pour les collectivités nationales qui le constituent aussi bien que pour un certain nombre de puissances et partenaires internationaux. Vivier démographique, il concentre nombre des principales économies du continent africain, et présente un potentiel considérable en termes de construction de solidarités interétatiques. Regroupant 22 pays africains à fort potentiel (énergétique, manufacturier, technologique, etc.), il se caractérise par une forte dynamique migratoire interne, de surcroît consolidée par l’accélération du processus de la transition démographique afro-atlantique, et marquée d’une part par des relatifs replis concomitants des taux de mortalité et de natalité, et d’autre part par l’émergence de l’individu-citoyen, notamment en contexte urbain. Cette configuration prolonge le débat sur la relation démographie / démocratie, et celle, connexe, de l’émergence économique, avec les structures et les institutions qui peuvent y participer.
C’est au processus de mise en place et d’institutionnalisation d’une communauté afro-atlantique d’intérêt commun et durable, en mesure d’accélérer l’émergence de l’espace en question, que s’attachera l’ouvrage. Le nexus transition démographique / transition démocratique est en mesure de définir l’avenir de l’espace afro-atlantique, si elle fait l’objet d’une prise de charge adéquate par des institutions idoines, dans un monde qui regarde davantage vers l’Asie, et en gardant à l’esprit l’horizon de la croissance et du développement pérennes, durables et inclusifs.
La réflexion de ce projet d’ouvrage s’intéressera en particulier à la construction d’institutions collectives intégrant dans leur fonctionnement les principes d’efficacité, d’efficience, de transparence, de bonne gouvernance, et de territorialité, en tenant compte du nexus démocratie / démographie / développement.
Le projet d’ouvrage a ainsi pour objet de scruter les dynamiques démographiques caractérisant la façade afro-atlantique, ainsi que le rôle de la transition démographique dans l‘accélération de la transition démocratique en Afrique atlantique. Il ambitionne aussi de fournir à partir des diverses sources de données (Banque mondiale, Nations unies, Enquêtes démographiques et de santé, etc.), des informations sur les indicateurs de la transition démographique dans l’espace afro-atlantique (fécondité et déterminants intermédiaires, mortalité) et quelques corrélations économiques, institutionnelles, et de coopération internationale ayant trait au développement.
Dans l’ensemble, la méthode de l’ouvrage ambitionne d’approcher le sujet de façon pluridisciplinaire. Si l’approche mettra en avant les dimensions économique et géopolitique, l’histoire et les autres sciences sociales seront également mobilisées. L’approche sera également comparative, et tâchera d’intégrer une démarche prospective. Enfin, la démarche sera scientifique et ne se limitera par à la description. Elle intégrera des recommandations en matière de politiques publiques face aux enjeux caractérisant le pourtour atlantique africain.

Directives de soumission
Les personnes intéressées sont invitées à soumettre un résumé de leur article via ce formulaire avant le 30 septembre 2023. Les résumés ne doivent pas dépasser 300 mots et doivent faire ressortir de manière claire la problématique et les lignes d'analyse envisagées.
Après notification de l'acceptation des résumés, les articles doivent être des travaux originaux, non publiés et n'ayant pas fait l'objet d'une publication ailleurs. Les articles doivent compter entre 5 000 et 8 000 mots, y compris les tableaux, les figures et les références.

Call for Papers - Demography and democracy in Atlantic Africa
The African Atlantic area is a strategic space for the national communities that make it up, as well as for a number of international powers and partners. A demographic breeding ground, it is home to many of the continent's leading economies and offers considerable potential for building inter-state solidarity. Comprising 22 African countries with high potential in different sectors (energy, manufacturing, technology, etc.), it is characterized by a strong internal migration dynamic, further consolidated by the acceleration of the Afro-Atlantic demographic transition process and marked on the one hand by concomitant relative declines in mortality and birth rates, and on the other by the emergence of the individual-citizen, particularly in an urban context. This configuration extends the debate on the relationship between demography and democracy, and the related debate on economic emergence, with the structures and institutions that can contribute to it.
The book will focus on the process of establishing and institutionalizing an Afro-Atlantic community of common and lasting interest, capable of accelerating the emergence of the space in question.
The demographic transition/democratic transition nexus can define the future of the Afro-Atlantic space, if it is adequately addressed by appropriate institutions, in a world that is looking more and more towards Asia, and keeping in mind the horizon of perennial, sustainable and inclusive growth and development.
This project will focus in particular on the construction of collective institutions that integrate the principles of effectiveness, efficiency, transparency, good governance and territoriality, while taking into account the nexus of democracy, demography and development.
The aim of this project is to examine the demographic dynamics characterizing the Afro-Atlantic seaboard, as well as the role of demographic transition in the acceleration of democratic transition in Atlantic Africa. Using various data sources (World Bank, United Nations, Demographic and Health Surveys, etc.), it also aims to provide information on the indicators of demographic transition in the Afro-Atlantic area (fertility and intermediate determinants, mortality) and some economic, institutional and international cooperation correlations relating to development.
Overall, the book's method aims to take a multidisciplinary approach to the subject. While the economic and geopolitical dimensions will be emphasized, history and other social sciences will also be mobilized. The approach will also be comparative and will strive to integrate a forward-looking approach. Finally, the approach will be scientific and not limited to description. It will include recommendations for public policies to meet the challenges facing Africa's Atlantic rim.

Submission guidelines
Interested parties are invited to submit an abstract of their paper via this form by September 30th, 2023. Abstracts should not exceed 300 words and should clearly highlight the problem and lines of analysis envisaged.
After notification of acceptance of abstracts, articles must be original, unpublished work that has not been published elsewhere. Articles should be between 5,000 and 8,000 words in length, including tables, figures, and references.
