The African Philanthropy Forum (APF), in partnership with the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS), is organizing the 2024 APF Conference under the theme: “A New Agenda for African Philanthropy: Catalyzing Funding to Accelerate Africa's Transformation”, which will take place in Marrakech Morocco from October 27th to 29th.

Recent years have witnessed a remarkable advancement in African philanthropy. Notably, there has been a surge in indigenous philanthropy, with African business leaders and varied stakeholders stepping up to play a more active role in addressing local challenges. This shift underscores a growing recognition of the importance of locally driven solutions to the unique problems faced by communities across the continent.

Political upheavals, continued economic uncertainty, food insecurity, youth bulge, regional conflicts, and climate concerns are only a few of the challenges that have had profound impacts on social and economic systems within the African Continent. The philanthropic ecosystem has played a crucial role in responding to these needs and maximizing attendant opportunities – primarily through strategic giving support to grassroots organizations and high-impact advocacy.

As the continent looks towards recovery and resilience in the face of existing challenges and emerging opportunities, there is a pressing need to assess the evolving dynamics of the continent and identify ways to galvanize resources from the philanthropic community to catalyze Africa’s transformation.

As the APF Community convenes in Marrakech, Morocco, the theme of the conference seeks to frame the new agenda for African philanthropy—one that is agile, collaborative, and focused on catalyzing funding to accelerate Africa's transformation.

Conference Objectives

The objectives of the conference are to:

1- Explore innovative philanthropic models and engage in discussions on emerging trends and innovative approaches in philanthropy that can effectively address Africa's unique challenges.

2- Catalyze funding for sustainable development through conversations on channeling funds strategically to accelerate sustainable development across various sectors.

3- Foster cross-sector collaboration and encourage dialogue and collaboration between philanthropists, government officials, non-profits, and businesses to create synergies in advancing Africa's transformation agenda.

4- Empower local philanthropy and amplify the role of local philanthropists and grassroots initiatives in driving community development.
