Nozuko Hlwatika is an Economic Development Manager at the National Economic Development and Labour Council in South Africa (SA) in which she manages processes and social dialogue pertaining to legislation, policies, regulations, and emerging issues concerning economic development and economic recovery. Nozuko is a 2022 Mandela Washington Fellow, a program established by President Barack Obama in 2014 for young African leaders. In this regard, she was placed at Wayne State University in Michigan, USA, under the Public Management track which had a strong emphasis on public policy studies. She is also a 2022 Public Service Fellow at Futurelect, an Apolitical Academy. The program is designed for young ethical people from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) who wish to become leaders in public service. She holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration where her research focused on SA’s child support grant – a social policy intended to assist children living in poverty through cash transfers.
