Transition Report dissemination: A Changing Global Economic Landscape – Challenges and Opportunities for Morocco
From
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Policy Center for the New South are jointly organizing the Transition Report dissemination under the theme: A Changing Global Economic Landscape – Challenges and Opportunities for Morocco on May 30th at 14:00.
The Transition Report 2023-24 focuses on transitions and notably the reconfiguration of global supply chains, the scramble for raw materials for the digital and green economies. Investment promotion has been shown to be effective (if applied well), so agencies in many countries are hoping to capture FDI flow linked to reshaping of global value chains – but competition will be fierce. Morocco has opportunities in many sectors like renewable energy, transport equipment, R&D – and some sectors also have the added advantage of being relatively labour intensive (tourism, software and IT services). However, in order to leverage these opportunities, policy reforms would be needed to create an even more conducive environment for large anchor investments and local SMEs alike.
In this regard, the PCNS and EBRD gathered a high-level panel to discuss the challenges faced by the Moroccan economy and the opportunities for growth.
