Otaviano Canuto, Senior Fellow at the Policy Center for the New South, is participating in a high-level discussion hosted by the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center on Friday, April 18 at 9:30 a.m. ET. The virtual event will focus on the pivotal role of financial guarantees in mobilizing private capital for climate mitigation investments in emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs). As the global community prepares for COP30 in Belém, Brazil, this November, the session will delve into why guarantee facilities are considered among the most effective mechanisms for unlocking large-scale private finance. It will also highlight their potential to support investments in clean energy and nature-based solutions, as well as how COP30 can serve as a turning point for institutionalizing these instruments.
