Raphael Obonyo studied Public Policy and International Development at Duke University and Business at University of Nairobi. He started his professional career as assistant at the United Nations Development Programme Department of the Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy in New York. He's held the position of Program Associate at United Nations Habitat in Nairobi and Professional and Technical Consultant at United Nations Development Programme in Gaborone.
Raphael Obonyo has been a technical consultant at Commonwealth Secretariat in London, World Bank in Washington DC, African Union in Addis Ababa and Netherlands Democratic Institute in Hague. He’s also headed several high-level international missions to address a range of issues related to development in countries such as Italy, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, United States, Botswana, South Africa, Nigeria, Rwanda, Colombia, United Kingdom and Colombia.
As a Communication Specialist, Raphael Obonyo has led a number of organisations communications work, including UN Habitat, Centre for African Bio Entrepreneurship and UNDP, identifying opportunities to profile the organisations and their objectives with key partners and leaders to influence decision making at global, regional and national levels. He’s been responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring and updating communication strategies, leading strategic messaging and supporting strategic communication engagements.
